The territory of Fara has been wine land for centuries. In fact, the origins of Fara and of wine making, but also of the Dessilani family, date back to the Romans. History tells us of a pitched battle which took place between consuls Mario and Silla precisely in this area. Victorious Silla decided to donate plots of land to the soldiers who had fought most gallantly: thus the origin of the “sillani”, which later changed into “dei sillani” (of the sillani) and then into “desillani” or “dessilani”.
The more recent history of the Dessilani family, runs down nine generations. The progenitor, Giuseppe, was a noteworthy wine maker already at the beginning of the 1800s.
